Modules that contain pluggable transceivers include Interface Cards (BICs). The transceivers are attached to the BICs, which are integrated into the UFMs in turn. This unique form of the printed circuit board, sometimes referred to as a backplane, is used as a support system for connecting other PCBs. The backplane connector provides mechanical strength and stability while still serving as a plane to integrate other device elements called daughterboards.
