Looking for Definition of DCD or what DCD stands for?

Data Carrier Detect, shortened as DCD, or abbreviated as CD Carrier Detect, is a control signal within an RS-232 serial communications cable between a computer and a modem system. This signal is an essential “high/low” status bit transmitted “from DCE to DTE” or from the peripheral to the device in an everyday situation, present on nearly all PC serial ports-pin 1 of a nine-pin (DE9) serial port, or pin 8 over a 25-pin (DB25) port. Depending on the system attached, its function varies, but the most common definition is to signify that a modem is connected via telephone lines to another remote modem.
